Whenever the words “sun” and “moon” come together in The Qur’an, I have always seen the sun mentioned first and the moon second. One wisdom seems to be that this is because the sun is the original source of light while the moon is reflected light.

1. He causes the dawn to break, and has made the night for rest and ˹made˺ the sun and the moon ˹to travel˺ with precision. (6:96)
2. Indeed your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days,1 then established Himself on the Throne. He makes the day and night overlap in rapid succession. He created the sun, the moon, and the stars—all subjected by His command. (7:54)
3. He is the One Who made the sun a radiant source and the moon a reflected light, (10:5)

And see the beauty of The Qur’an that the one time it does mention the moon first, it explictly states that the sun is the source of light.

placing the moon within them as a ˹reflected˺ light, and the sun as a ˹radiant˺ lamp? (71:16)

Similarly, I have found that every time The Qur’an mentions the day and the night together, it always mentions the night first and again one wisdom seems to be that the night is the original state of the universe while day is only a condition created by the light of stars.

1. And He is the One Who created the day and the night, the sun and the moon … (21:33)
2. Ask ˹them, O Prophet,˺ “Who can defend you by day or by night against the Most Compassionate?”.. (21:42)

AMAZING !! Because all this was revealed about 1400 years ago. Imagine coming up with this confidence of knowing that the night was original and the sunlight was original…

THUS, it’s amazing that The Qur’an has such an intricate usage of word placements and pays so much attention to detail. In our daily lives, we may not care how we speak. But The Qur’an even took care of this precise word selection according to the scientific reality. The Qur’an was revealed over about a period of 23 years and never changed across 14 centuries and yet contains such a consistent and detailed selection of words. And in addition to that it contains other linguistic, scientific, numerical miracles etc. along with this depth of linguistic excellence as well!!
