Just like we need to exercise other muscles of the body to keep them moving or to develop them, likewise, we need to keep thinking in order to develop a thinking mind. I belive that students need to think about what they study. Wasting too much time playing or doing useless things can take away the precious time they require to ponder over what they study. We are not merely robots that absorb information and act as programmed. We have been given the beautifully ability to process that information and draw conclusions. If we merely absort information and then do not take out the time to think and draw conclusions, we can easily be mislead with that information. We may start to follow that information blindly.
Thinking can bring about amazing ideas. Thinking can free a person from the shackles of the norms. It allows one to see the beauty behind the apparent. It reveals the untapped valleys within us and around us. New ideas and discoveries are among the beautiful results of reflecting on what we know. Drawing conclusions about our existence and answering the questions about the existence of Allah also rely on reflection.
For those who don’t think, can easily become ‘slaves’ to the thinking minds of others. They can easily be pulled towards following the norms, even if those norms are wrong.
