See The Curse of Abandoning The Qur’an !!!!

Have you thought of religious books as being relevant only in religious circles of knowledge. To break away this thought, I will present to you some examples from The Qur’an and how it truly acts as a guiding light for the one who truly wants to be guided by it and how a true connection with The Qur’an helps us in our day-to-day lives. Surah Yunus, verse 57, “O humanity! Indeed, there has come to you a warning from your Lord, a cure for what is in the hearts, a guide, and a mercy for the believers.” and verse 174 of Surah Nisa, “O humanity! There has come to you conclusive evidence from your Lord. And We have sent down to you a brilliant light.”

EXAMPLES:

  1. I recall that once I was travelling on the road and found a needy person. I resisted to reach my pocket and help him, but suddenly, in the flash of a moment, my brain popped out such verses, as if out of nowhere: Surah Ar-Rahman, verse 60, “Is there any reward for goodness except goodness?” and I realized that if Allah was good to me by providing me money, I must be good to the needy as well. And part of verse 77 of Surah Al-Qasas, “Rather, seek the ˹reward˺ of the Hereafter by means of what Allah has granted you, without forgetting your share of this world. And be good ˹to others˺ as Allah has been good to you.” So I must be good to the needy as I was shown goodness. And verses 24 and 25 of Surah Ma’arij say, “and who give the rightful share of their wealth to the beggar and the poor” So I must give to the one who asks and one who is in need.
  2. When performing religious rituals, such as praying, fasting and performing wudu (ablution), the satan tries to take a person to extremes and the person feels the attacks of the whispers of satan. And then, the prayer, fast, ablution etc. start becoming a burden, rather than a spiritual ritual. It is during the performing of these rituals that The Qur’an comes in as a light and a source of mercy. Verses such as verse 6 of Surah Maidah says the following right after mentioning the ritual of wudu that, “It is not Allah’s Will to burden you, but to purify you and complete His favour upon you, so perhaps you will be grateful.” and verse 78 of Surah Al-Hajj says right after telling us to strive in the way of Allah that, “Strive for ˹the cause of˺ Allah in the way He deserves, for ˹it is˺ He ˹Who˺ has chosen you, and laid upon you no hardship in the religion” and verse 28 of Surah Nisa says, “And it is Allah’s Will to lighten your burdens, for humankind was created weak.” and thus during the satanic whispers, we can easily recall these verses in our brain and this allows us to avoid exaggerations while performing the rituals. Otherwise, extreme attitudes in our religion can make the religion a burden. All praise belongs to Allah on how this Qur’an is acting as a mercy for us! Surah An-Naml, verse 77, “And it is truly a guide and mercy for the believers.”
  3. Just before committing a sin, verses such as verse 2 and 3 of Surah At-Talaq help us realize that if we stop now, we will get a better result, “And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for them, and provide for them from sources they could never imagine. And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He ˹alone˺ is sufficient for them. Certainly Allah achieves His Will. Allah has already set a destiny for everything.” and verse 90 of Surah Yusuf says, “Allah has truly been gracious to us. Surely whoever is mindful ˹of Allah˺ and patient, then certainly Allah never discounts the reward of the good-doers.” and this verse gives us hope that patiently doing our best while avoiding sins will give us the best results. However, after committing a sin, we can keep our morale and confidence high and avoid being hopeless of the mercy of Allah by remembering verse 53 of Surah Az-Zumar, “Say, ˹O Prophet, that Allah says,˺ “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins.1 He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” and verse 87 of Surah Yusuf, “O my sons! Go and search ˹diligently˺ for Joseph and his brother. And do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah, for no one loses hope in Allah’s mercy except those with no faith.”
  4. Ofcourse, The Qur’an guides us in all realms and areas of our lives, whether they be day-to-day or even longer goals. So for example, a mother who truly believes that Allah wants the best for His creations through the commandments in The Qur’an, she would be so eager to make sure that her child is fed for two years according to the verse 233 of Surah Al-Baqarah, “˹Divorced˺ mothers will breastfeed their offspring for two whole years, for those who wish to complete the nursing ˹of their child˺.” She will feed her even if she is unaware of all the scientific and medical benefits hidden in this breast-feeding because she believes in Allah’s complete knowledge.
  5. In our day-to-day attitudes towards wealth and well-being, a person who is closely attached to the message of The Qur’an will have a very balanced approach towards the ups and downs of life. He will not boast and show arrogance when he because wealthy and neither would he show depression and anxiety when he is broke or hurt. Being in a constant attachment with The Qur’an help a person establish a balanced attitude. For example, verse 83 of Surah Al-Isra says, “When We grant people Our favours, they turn away, acting arrogantly. But when touched with evil, they lose all hope.” Also, The Qur’an will guide him to avoid both extravagence and stinginess. Surah Al-Furqan, verse 67, “˹They are˺ those who spend neither wastefully nor stingily, but moderately in between.” and Surah Al-Isra verse 29, “Do not be so tight-fisted, for you will be blameworthy; nor so open-handed, for you will end up in poverty.”
  6. A person who is connected to The Qur’an will also make sure to try and get married as soon as possible for it is the natural state of any human being to live as a couple, Surah An-Naba, verse 8, “and created you in pairs,” and likewise, verse 21 of Surah Ar-Room, “And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” He will not waste away his life as a single person.

Likewise, if I start quoting The Qur’an, this article will become a never-ending document. But what is clear is that The Qur’an guides us and provides us will all the basic priciples for each and every field of life to succeed in both this life and the next. Be it politics, economics, social life, family matters, money, moral development, character development, emotional well-being, mental well-being, intellectual development, physical well-being, sleeping patterns, public dealing, spirituality, charity etc. etc.

The only condition is that WE ourselves make the intention and approach The Qur’an and establish a continuous, personal, relationship with this book in order to benefit from its message. The gem is readily available. All we need to do is remain in a continuous relationship with it.

Otherwise, a person will spend his entire life, wandering in blindness without the light of The Qur’an and will have no one to blame but himself, Surah An-Nisa, verse 79, “Whatever good befalls you is from Allah and whatever evil befalls you is from yourself.”

Towards the end, I just put up translations of the verses that talk about The Qur’an being a guidance and light etc. or show that Allah has sent guidance for us.
Surah An-Naml, verse 2: “˹It is˺ a guide and good news for the believers:”
Surah Yunus, verse 57: “O humanity! Indeed, there has come to you a warning from your Lord, a cure for what is in the hearts, a guide, and a mercy for the believers.”
Surah An-Naml, verse 77: “And it is truly a guide and mercy for the believers.”
Surah Fussilat, verse 44: “Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “It is a guide and a healing to the believers.”
Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 2: “This is the Book! There is no doubt about it—a guide for those mindful ˹of Allah˺,”
Surah An-Nisa, verse 174: “O humanity! There has come to you conclusive evidence from your Lord. And We have sent down to you a brilliant light.”

Finally, cursed (by cuurse, I mean someone who is distanced from the mercy of Allah) is the one who has the guidance and yet chooses not to use it. His example is of the one who has a torch to navigate a dark room to find something, yet he choose to go in without the torch. Eventually, he fails to find that thing, and also end up smashing his head against several walls !!!
